Systems seminar - a creative response to climate change

A creative response

We are at a tipping point in climate change history. With the IPCC report calling for “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”, activist movements such as Extinction Rebellion are calling on people to act now.

Demands for climate justice and systems change are continuing to gather momentum. Radical steps for decarbonising the economy is what we must expect of our governments, but what should we expect of our art school education? How can an art school transform the conversation around climate change and translate it into action?

Come and join us to listen and to speak, and to ask what we can do to change the system.

We’ll be focusing on areas such as:

• Changing systems not tinkering with broken, old systems
• A focus on clean energy, clean economy, clean environment
• Sustainable responses from architects, design and art students
• Beyond the circular economy to a true eco-economy working with nature
• Designing and making in a world of too much stuff
• Artistic practices that directly engage and explain our environment
• Technological and design approaches to systems change
• Creative responses and action on climate change
• Diversifying and decolonising the narrative of climate change
• Conflict, migration and climate change
• The psychology behind changing our response to climate change

The evening aims to provide a platform for staff, students, and members of the community to critically explore creative spaces for discussion around climate change and activism within an arts education context.

In conjunction with GSA Sustainability and RE:AD. Open to all. Free, but ticketed.
