Fashion Revolution Day - POP UP Showcase: Who Made My Clothes?

On 24th April each year, Fashion Revolution Daymarks the second anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster in Dhaka, Bangladesh, which killed 1133, and injured over 2500 people. Social and environmental catastrophes in our fashion supply chains continue.

This initiative will bring everyone in the fashion value chain together and help to raise awareness of the true cost of fashion, show the world that change is possible, and celebrate all those involved in creating a more sustainable future. Led by some of the biggest names in fashion, Fashion Revolution Day will show that change is possible and celebrate those who are on a journey to create a more ethical and sustainable future for fashion. Model Lily Cole, Blogger Susie Lau, TV presenter and journalist Anita Rani, and Eco Age Founder Livia Firth are just some of the names expected take part in a mass global action asking brands #whomademyclothes.

Fashion lovers will take a selfie with the label in their clothing showing, send it to a brand via social media, asking ‘who made my clothes?’ #whomademyclothes and share their reply. Tens of thousands of people across the globe did this last year and more are expected to take part in the campaign this April. To mark the day, and connect supporters with garment producers all over the world, there will be a series of global ‘social media takeovers’ via #fashrev

The Fashion Revolution Scotland team we will be hosting a Pop Up exhibition titled “Who Made My Clothes?” at the Lighthouse, Glasgow. This will exhibit will showcase sixteen reclaimed garments, the average amount disposed of annually by per person (WRAP, 2013) to support cherishability we will demonstrate a rich mix of techniques for refashioning items within your own wardrobe. In addition to a master class demonstrating how to give back life to old clothes by successful costume designer and sewing teacher Iona Barker. Visitors will be invited to ask well known brands #whomademyclothes by sharing a selfie using social media via our Photo Booth that will include a ‘Fashion Tardis’ for styling and transforming your outfit ensemble before staring in your own photo shoot. There will also be a secret Fash Mob on Glasgow’s busy high street.
